In Cairo

First time in Egypt! Cairo feels a bit like Mexico City; big, noisy, dirty, crazy... It seems the city is growing faster than planned; everywhere you see building sites and road construction work going on. At the outskirts of Cairo huge neighbourhoods are being built. Some of the projects seem to have run out of money though, halfmade buildings stand empty in the sand with no people or machines nearby.

The traffic is heavy and chaotic, it is as bustling as in Hanoi, Vietnam but the vehicles weigh ten times more and they drive faster here! I saw one car accident on the road from the airport to the hotel and another one from the hotel back to the airport! By the side of the road people sell all different kinds of goods; sodas, water, sun screen and live poultry!
- "Oh, it is so hot, let's buy a coke!".
- "Sure, and I am starving so let's buy a chicken at the same time!"...

The Sheraton 6th of October is kind of isolated from other buildings, you need a cab to go anywhere actually and the nearest shopping mall is 15 minutes away! I feel the trip was too short though, I did not get to know the place. The food is great and I hope to come back soon. Next time I will stay a bit closer to the city center however.

For you who did not know before, there is a lot of sand in Egypt.

Going to the office.

Back-seat tourist picture 2: The majestic Giza pyramides!
(Great, now I have ticked off yet two more "must-sees-before-I-die"...)
