Swimming World Cup in Eriksdalsbadet 10-11 November 2009

"It is free!", my wife told me on the phone. "What is?", I asked. "The entrance to Swimming World Cup. let's go". So we went. Of course it was not free, it was 150 SEK per person; the trials were free but not the finals... Anyhow, Silvia managed to get in backstage, talked with some friends in the Brazilian team and got back with some VIP-passes. Nicely done!

It was fun to be there but hard to see any of the action, I guess you need to be by the side of the pool (or in it, with scuba gear!) to be able to see exactly what is happening. Some world records were broken and when that happened the crowd went crazy. Each world record has a 10.000 USD bonus and a Brazilian, Kaio Almeida won 20.000 USD yesterday. Congratulations. Maybe I should push my kids to take up swimming? Golf and tennis seem to pay off better though.

It was also fun to see the stars live, the ones you only see on TV normally; Therese Alshammar, Stefan Nystrand, Michael Phelps (he looked kind of tiny actually) and Fabiola Molina. Fabiola and Silvia swam together in the end of the 90's. Silvia gave up swimming but Fabiola continued and made a career out of it. We met with her after the competition and it is incredible the amount of time and dedication she puts into swimming; about five hours of training per day! Amazing. It helps that her husband is an elite swimmer also (Silvia and I do things together as well, we play Xbox 360 for example). Fabiola fought for Brazil in the Olympics, both in Sydney 2000 and in Beijing 2008.

I Abu Dhabi

Åter i Abu Dhabi.

Halloween party

My very own witch planned a Halloween party for last Saturday. I had been traveling about 20 hours from Jakarta via KL and Amsterdam (where I strategically bought some duty free hard liqour) and was quite jetlagged when I arrived home on that very same Saturday. I slept a couple of hours however and was in fine shape by the time the first guests arrived. I mean, it was Halloween and you're supposed to look like a zombie anyway, right?! Or, as in my case, Count Dracula.

It all became a blur. There was some kind of a competition and team 3 won but I do not remember why or how. It had something to do with singing Karaoke. And knowing that you should not have sex in horror movies if you want to live until the end.

Yes, I was slightly tired on the Sunday. Lots of watching TV. And drinking orange juice. Actually, the whole family stayed in the pyjamas until about 8:00 PM. About that time it was time to go to bed again though... A perfect Sunday, if you ask me.

Monday morning I woke up early since the taxi was picking me up 4:45 AM. Next stop Abu Dhabi.

Four scary freaks. The hippie was really scary actually!

More freaks, except for the handsome fellow on the far right

Black pepper crab and more in Singapore

The food is very tasty in Singapore. I had some delicious Laksa with Dumpling soup, One important learning was that when the Laksa gets too spicy, you balance it with the soup.

One night we had a very nice dinner at a sea food restaurant called Long Beach, on the east coast. My absolute favourite was the black pepper crab, spicy and juicy. The chili crab was also delicious, especially when dipping the doughnut-like buns in the gravy! There were some stirfried garlic lobster tails, some delicious fish (that I never saw or tasted before) cooked with lemongrass and ginger, fried conch, crispy chicken and not to forget, the mango pudding for dessert.

By the way, I might add, I am on a diet...

The black pepper crab was outstanding

The conch was also very tasty!
